Description
Up for bid is an original vintage letter written to a reader by the late Joe Aaron, longtime columnist of The Evansville Courier in Evansville, Indiana. In this one-page typed letter, Aaron explains that he has no copies of his book, "A Dandelionin Winter," and "no book stories (sp) do either." Aaron signed his first name. The letter comes with the Courier envelope Aaron sent it in. It is addressed to Charlotte Bumb of Evansville and is postmarkedJan. 29, 1986. Later that same year, Aaron suffered a fatal heart attack while working in The Courier newsroom. Aaron's "Morning Assignment" column made him the Tri-State's most beloved newsman for many years. In 1962, he received the National Headliners Club award for writing the best local interest column in the country. In 1977, his fellow Tri-State journalists honored him with with the first Distinguished Service Award. "A Dandelion in Winter" was one of five books Aaron wrote. This letter and envelope are in very good to excellent condition and extremely rare. Aaron typed the letter on newsroom "copy" paper, the same that he would have used for column writing.
