HAL MELONE 1940s Film Actor Signed Get Well Card to Actress ELSA LANCHESTER
Up for sale is a card written to legendary actress ELSA LANCHESTER (and was her property up until the time of her death in 1986) from 1940's bit part actor HAL MELONE.  Melone appeared in the 1947 film A DOUBLE LIFE (with Ronald Colman & Shelley Winters), 1948 (LETTER FROM AN UNKNOWN WOMAN (with Joan Fontaine & Louis Jordan), 1948 BEYOND GLORY (with Alan Ladd & Donna Reed), 1948 YOU GOTTA STAY HAPPY (with Joan Fontaine, Jimmy Stewart & Eddie Albert) and the famed gorilla film 1949's MIGHT JOE YOUNG.  The card is first signed "Pam" (Hal's wife) and then "Hal Melone" is in his hand.  The card is a wish for a speedy recovery following Ms. Lanchester's devastating stroke in October 1983.  The card is in very nice condition.
Want to add this message I received from Hal Melone's brother:
Very surprised to find this on Ebay. Halsey Melone was my brother. He met Elsa Lanchester in 1942 when he was working at the Turnabout Theater in Los Angeles, where she appeared in songs and sketches unlike the roles she played in movies. Of course, he met Charles Laughton through this connection. In 1949-50 he toured as an aide to Laughton in the first of his "An Evening with Charles Laughton " reading tours.
Later, Halsey wrote a number of TV shows--GE Theater, Riverboat, Suspicion, The Millionaire, etc. He died in 1996 and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery (as John H. Melone.) Pam now lives in Ojai, California.
I'm very excited to have recently scored a terrific box of memorabilia from actress Elsa Lanchester (1902-1986).  I believe the box had been kept for years after her death by a friend of hers or possibly someone with a connection to her assistant, but there are many of her personal items including several cards from friends, scripts, photos, her personal sheet music and much more---This card was in the box.
Ms. Lanchester was nominated for 2 Academy Awards and won 1 Golden Globe Award for WITNESS OF THE PROSECUTION.  She starred in over 60 films and 40 television shows.  Her films include:  MURDER BY DEATH, WILLARD, BLACKBEARD'S GHOST, THAT DARN CAT!, MARY POPPINS, BELL BOOK AND CANDLE, WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION, LES MISERABLES, THE BISHOP'S WIFE, THE RAZOR'S EDGE, LASSIE COME HOME and maybe most famously, 1935's THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN.  One of her famous quotes about her career was that she had "large parts in lousy pictures and small parts in big pictures".  In spite of all her on camera success she always said she was "happiest performing in front of an audience" which is did frequently.  She was famously married to actor Charles Laughton.
*Please note that my shipping time is up to 5 business days as I have multiple jobs and can only ship one day a week.  If you happen to purchase after I return from the post office on shipping day it will be a full week wait until I am able to ship again.  But most people will have a much shorter wait and some will have very fast shipping.  No one will have to wait more than 5 business days.  Thank you for understanding.
