Gay JACK BUNGAY: Hal Wallis & Ayn Rand Assistant-Card to Actress ELSA LANCHESTERUp for sale is a card with a hand written note to legendary actress ELSA LANCHESTER (and was her property up until the time of her death in 1986) from openly gay movie history witness JACK BUNGAY. Jack was the personal assistant of famed producer Hal Wallis for 15 years, likely during his time producing films like CASABLANCA, THE MALTESE FALCON, SERGEANT YORK and NOW, VOYAGER. And in 1946 he was also the secretary to writer Ayn Rand who was one of the first writers Hal Wallis hired once he left Warner Brothers. Jack Bungay was very close to Ayn Rand and was interviewed for and mentioned in the biography about her called AND THE WORLD SHE MADE. This 1984 Christmas postcard was address to Elsa Lanchester at her home address and is from Jack and his husband or partner Jose Bungay. Jack included the written note "with memories of a wonderful Thanksgiving when you rehearsed the "Blue Angel" routine. He was referring to the Blue Angel nightclub in NYC where Ms. Lanchester performed her cabaret act. The card is in nice condition.
I'm very excited to have recently scored a terrific box of memorabilia from actress Elsa Lanchester (1902-1986). I believe the box had been kept for years after her death by a friend of hers or possibly someone with a connection to her assistant, but there are many of her personal items including several cards from friends, scripts, photos, her personal sheet music and much more---This card was in the box.
Ms. Lanchester was nominated for 2 Academy Awards and won 1 Golden Globe Award for WITNESS OF THE PROSECUTION. She starred in over 60 films and 40 television shows. Her films include: MURDER BY DEATH, WILLARD, BLACKBEARD'S GHOST, THAT DARN CAT!, MARY POPPINS, BELL BOOK AND CANDLE, WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION, LES MISERABLES, THE BISHOP'S WIFE, THE RAZOR'S EDGE, LASSIE COME HOME and maybe most famously, 1935's THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN. One of her famous quotes about her career was that she had "large parts in lousy pictures and small parts in big pictures". In spite of all her on camera success she always said she was "happiest performing in front of an audience" which is did frequently. She was famously married to actor Charles Laughton.

If you happen to purchase after I return from the post office on shipping day it will be a full week wait until I am able to ship again. But most people will have a much shorter wait and some will have very fast shipping. No one will have to wait more than 5 business days. Thank you for understanding.
